Miss. lawmakers vote to strengthen liability cap
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted June 28, 2004
The Mississippi Legislature June 3 passed comprehensive tort reform that establishes a $500,000 cap on noneconomic damages in medical malpractice cases and a $1 million cap on noneconomic damages for all liability cases. Mississippi already has a law establishing caps at $500,000 in medical liability cases, but this bill, which the governor is expected to sign, prevents that cap from rising to $1 million over the next decade.
