Physicians request duty-free status for medical equipment donations
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted July 5, 2004
The American Medical Association will ask the federal government to help find a way to allow donated medical equipment and supplies going to medically underserved areas in foreign countries to go duty free.
Physicians at the AMA Annual Meeting in June made the request because physicians trying to bring in donated goods are being asked to pay taxes on them, and this sometimes discourages donations to areas that could greatly benefit from them.
