Profession
Medical school for researchers opens
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted July 19, 2004
The Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University has its first class of 32 students starting this July. Eventually the class size will reach 145. The five-year medical college's mission is to train physician-researchers, but there won't be any PhDs next to their MDs when they graduate.
Research is woven throughout the medical curriculum, with the fifth year dedicated to a research project developed earlier in the students' studies.
The college said it would charge students only for four years.
