AMA issues medical encyclopedia
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Dec. 25, 2006
The American Medical Association Concise Medical Encyclopedia was published by Random House Reference in November.
The book, which includes more than 3,000 entries and 100 illustrations, includes information on subjects ranging from avian influenza to the new food pyramid and aims to be a reliable resource for patients and their families.
"Every day Americans are bombarded with news of the latest medical study or another medical breakthrough," said AMA President William G. Plested III, MD. "With the AMA Concise Medical Encyclopedia, patients have the tools they need to make sense of this abundance of information, enabling them to make informed medical decisions."
The encyclopedia also provides revised CPR procedures and symptom charts to help patients decide when to seek medical care. The book can be ordered directly from the AMA online (link) or purchased from retail outlets.
