Employers launch e-prescribing plan
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Jan. 22, 2007
A group representing employers in the Akron-Canton, Ohio, area is launching a pilot program it hopes will lead to more physicians adopting electronic prescribing.
Employers Health Purchasing of Ohio is partnering with Caremark Rx to find 25 physicians to use Caremark's iScribe e-prescribing tool, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. Employers Health Purchasing's business members have about 430,000 employees collectively.
Physicians would not have to pay for the iScribe service. The group and Caremark say they would cover the $8,000-per-doctor cost of training, software, PDAs and other hardware. Employers Health Purchasing says it hopes to have the physicians and the system in place by June 30.
