Louisiana increases Medicaid reimbursements, eligibility
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Aug. 6, 2007
All physicians in Louisiana will see their Medicaid reimbursements increase from about 60% of Medicare rates to 90% of Medicare rates, thanks to a budget bill signed by Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco last month. The Legislature also increased eligibility for Medicaid from up to 100% of the federal poverty level to up to 200% of the poverty level. Pregnant women already were eligible at up to 200% of the poverty level. The Louisiana State Medical Society supported both provisions, estimated to cost at least $68 million.
