Diabetes campaign focuses on tighter control
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Oct. 1, 2007
The National Diabetes Education Program has launched "Control Your Diabetes. For Life," a campaign that emphasizes the importance of comprehensive control of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. It provides steps that can reduce the complications of these two diseases.
More than 20 million adults in the United States are living with diabetes and are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
Most people don't realize that diabetes places adults at an increased risk of both heart attacks and strokes.
The campaign messages and materials are tailored to groups at high risk: African-Americans, Hispanics, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Asian-Americans, Pacific Islanders and older adults.
