AMA book gives patients heart tips
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Feb. 4, 2008
The American Medical Association last month issued a guide to reducing the risk of cardiac disease and living with it if it develops.
The American Medical Association Guide to Preventing and Treating Heart Disease: Essential Information You and Your Family Need to Know about Having a Healthy Heart is available at online and retail bookstores. The volume provides tips and tools for managing cholesterol, blood pressure and stress as well as quitting smoking and increasing physical activity.
"Heart disease is the leading cause of death among men and women, making education and awareness critically important," said AMA President Ron Davis, MD. "The AMA hopes to help people understand the best ways to prevent and treat common heart problems."
The book, which is directed toward patients, also includes chapters dedicated to women's experience with heart disease and the signs and symptoms that indicate the need to consult a physician.
