NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted June 16, 2008
Demand for new physicians in New York state is strong, with the median starting income up 13% from 2005 to 2007, according to an April study by the Center for Health Workforce Studies at the University at Albany's School of Public Health in New York.
New primary care physicians saw more job offers and higher starting salaries in 2007 than in 2006, the study said. However, primary care physicians were still at the low end of physician incomes, with a median starting salary of $142,100.
Starting income for pediatrics was the lowest at $110,650, while orthopedics had the highest at $259,700. Data for the report came from the 2007 New York resident exit survey.
