Dietary supplements didn't slow cartilage loss
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Oct. 20, 2008
The dietary supplements glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate, together or alone, appeared to fare no better than placebo in slowing loss of cartilage in osteoarthritis of the knee, according to a study in the October Arthritis & Rheumatism.
But the findings were not totally clear, because the placebo group fared better than was anticipated and had a smaller loss of cartilage than was predicted, the researchers said.
