Maine's health information exchange will soon go live
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Aug. 17, 2009
HealthInfoNet, Maine's nonprofit health information exchange, will go live this summer, making it the country's largest statewide electronic health information exchange that uses clinical data.
The network has been under development for the past five years while it raised $8 million for its construction. The exchange is estimated to cost approximately $6 million annually to operate but is expected to save $50 million per year once it is fully expanded.
The project will begin with a one-year demonstration phase that will include more than 2,000 caregivers. The remaining health care facilities will be phased in over several months.
