AMA offers new health plan contracting tool for members
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted March 29, 2010
A new online tool developed by the American Medical Association offers member physicians help with negotiating health plan contracts.
The National Managed Care Contract, or NMCC database, allows physicians to draft a model contract, view national and state laws that relate to various contract clauses and see related AMA policy.
The resource will help physicians who are typically at a disadvantage in negotiating with health insurance companies, AMA President J. James Rohack, MD said in a news release.
"The concentrated market power of large health insurers gives them an unprecedented advantage in dictating key aspects of health care to physicians," he said.
Along with the database, more information, including a user guide and instructional video, is available for AMA members (link).
