"Meaningful use" of EMRs subject of AHA ad
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted April 26, 2010
The American Hospital Assn. has taken out a full-page ad in four Washington political publications urging the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to revise meaningful use rules to be more flexible for hospitals and physicians.
The ad claims that the CMS rules propose strict requirements that constrain hospitals as they work to implement electronic medical records. It is urging CMS to adopt an incremental approach, which also is favored by the American Medical Association. The ad points out that 275 U.S. senators and representatives also have questioned the agency's proposed rules in their own letters to CMS.
The ads appeared in CQ Today, CongressDaily, Politico and Roll Call in mid-April.
