Cost of hospital employee wages, benefits rises more slowly
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted May 17, 2010
The amount of money hospitals spend compensating staff is still going up, although less so than in the past.
The expense of wages and benefits for those who work in this setting grew 2.1% from April 2009 until March 2010, according to the quarterly employment cost index released April 30 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The increase from April 2008 until March 2009 was 3%.
The trends in the health industry are similar to those in the economy as a whole.
