Ala. doctor loses House GOP primary
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted June 14, 2010
Rep. Parker Griffith, MD (R, Ala.) lost the Republican primary for Alabama's 5th Congressional District on June 1, just over five months after switching to the GOP. Madison County Commissioner Mo Brooks won 51% of the vote, while Dr. Griffith took 33% and former Navy pilot Les Phillip took 16%.
Dr. Griffith, a retired radiation oncologist, said polling showed he could win as a Democrat but that he wasn't accepted by the GOP in the district. He vowed to continue supporting Republicans because he said Democrats are leading the country down a path of suffocating debt.
He also said the health reform bill needs to be repealed.
