AMA offers doctors online training to improve patients’ eating habits
Posted March 12, 2012
The American Medical Association released an online training module Feb. 28 to help physicians talk with patients about healthy eating habits (link). The training tool educates physicians on how to use the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture’s new dietary resource, ChooseMyPlate.gov.
The tool is part of the Association’s Educating Physicians on Controversies and Challenges in Health program. It offers physicians tips on accessing information on the ChooseMyPlate website and how to present that information to patients. The USDA in June 2011 released the food plate as a new symbol to replace the food pyramid. The image shows what an ideal plate of food should look like and intends to reduce obesity by urging Americans to eat nutritious food in appropriate proportions.
