Job growth unabated in health care
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted June 11, 2012
The unemployment rate grew slightly in May, but job creation continued to be strong at physician offices and hospitals, according to a jobs report released June 1 by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The economy as a whole added 69,000 jobs, and the unemployment rate inched up to 8.2% from the 8.1% in April. Health care continued to be a driver of job creation and added 32,800 positions in May, with 9,900 in physician offices and 4,500 in hospitals. The BLS does not break down jobs by occupation, but industry watchers say clinical staff such as physicians are generally in high demand.
