Hospitals moving ahead with EHR deployment despite cost
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted July 9, 2012
A poll of hospitals by the tax advisory firm KPMG found that although there are hospitals moving forward with implementing electronic health record systems, many are doing so despite budgetary concerns.
The survey of 220 hospitals found that 49% were more than halfway finished with EHR implementation, and 48% said they are only somewhat comfortable with their organizations’s budget for EHR deployment. Twenty-five percent said they are very comfortable with their EHR budget, and 9% said they are not at all comfortable.
When asked about their deployment strategies, 16% said they are relying on existing staff, while 13% plan to hire additional staff and 10% are using third-party assistance.
