Cigna acquires Medicare Advantage plans in 3 states
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Jan. 14, 2013
Connecticut-based Cigna Corp. announced in January that it completed its acquisition of Arcadian and Humana Medicare Advantage plans in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas.
The expansion adds about 4,500 Medicare beneficiaries in Amarillo, Texas; Longview-Marshall, Texas; Texarkana, Texas; Texarkana, Ark.; and Fort Smith, Ark., Cigna officials said.
“We are pleased to have an opportunity to serve the health care needs of our new customers in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas,” said Herb Fritch, president of HealthSpring, a Cigna company. “I believe seniors in those areas will value our unique model and its extra benefits, proven results and personal attention.”
Cigna said the new customers had access to Cigna/HealthSpring’s physician engagement model — which focuses on prevention and wellness — beginning Jan. 1. The acquired markets were part of a government-stipulated divestiture for Humana to acquire Arcadian, according to Cigna.
