Scenes from the 2012 AMA Annual Meeting
In his inaugural address on June 19, AMA President Jeremy A. Lazarus, MD, called on fellow physicians to speak with a unified voice to bring about needed changes to health care. Among his priorities: Doctors should work together to pursue medical liability reform, replace the Medicare sustainable growth rate formula that helps determine physician pay and end health care disparities. As president, he also will seek to better integrate mental health care into other aspects of medicine and highlight the health impact of violence on mental and physical health. “Rest assured, I have laced up my sneakers for the start of my run as AMA president,” said Dr. Lazarus, who has competed in marathons and triathlons. “And I look forward to making great strides together with you who represent the best of our profession.” Read a profile of Dr. Lazarus.
