Florida's Faces of HIV mobile exhibit
The project aims to combat stigmas associated with HIV-positive patients by illuminating their diversity and letting them tell how the virus affects their lives.
Florida's Faces of HIV mobile exhibit
Faces of HIV was launched on World AIDS Day, Dec. 1, 2011, and started touring in January. The mobile art exhibit approaches the issue by telling the stories of Florida residents. It examines the effects of stigmas, personal relationships and health care issues associated with being HIV positive. The goal of the project is to try to normalize HIV/AIDS, said Marlene LaLota, MPH, the HIV prevention director at the Florida Dept. of Health. Residents "can look at the faces and realize that people with HIV are just like everyone else," she says.
