Neil Nelson, MD: 2012 Country Doctor of the Year
The award is given out each year to an outstanding rural physician. But "Doc Nelson" faces many of the same challenges as his urban counterparts.
Neil Nelson, MD: 2012 Country Doctor of the Year
Dr. Nelson starts most days with rounds at the 25-bed Gibson Area Hospital. He was born at the medical facility and worked at its switchboard as a teenager. "I wanted to be a doctor, and I knew that by working at the hospital I would get to talk to a lot of doctors and health professionals," he says.
