If asthma is bad, it's a girl
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted June 14, 2004
Pregnant women with asthma are more likely to experience a worsening of symptoms if they are carrying a girl, according to a paper presented at the American Thoracic Society International Conference in Orlando last month.
Researchers at the Hunter Medical Research Institute in Newcastle, Australia, found that more than 70% of women carrying a girl were symptomatic by 30 weeks, compared with 40% of those carrying boys. Nighttime wheezing also was exacerbated.
