Orthopedic income grows slightly
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Dec. 26, 2005
Net income for orthopedic groups increased just more than 2% from 2003 to 2004, suggesting that practices in the specialty have hit a financial plateau, according to recent data from the Medical Group Management Assn.
The small increase reported in the association's "Cost Survey for Orthopedic Practices: 2005 Report Based on 2004 Data" follows an MGMA study reporting that median compensation for orthopedists was nearly level.
Group size had an effect on net income, the report said. Practices with six or fewer physicians actually saw a 2.6% decline in net income. Meanwhile, groups with between seven and 12 physicians reported a 7.9% increase, and groups with more than 13 physicians reported a 4.9% increase.
