AMA waives fees for members hit by hurricanes

In an effort to assist physicians affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the American Medical Association's Board of Trustees agreed to waive 2006 AMA dues for physicians in some sections of Mississippi and Louisiana. Physicians must have been AMA members in 2005 to have their 2006 dues waived.
Under the plan, the AMA said memberships will be renewed automatically for AMA members in certain counties and parishes in the two states. Physicians can see if they are eligible by contacting the AMA Member Service Center at 800-262-3211. Refunds will be given to members who already have paid. The AMA also will give non-member physicians in the same hurricane-impacted sections one year of complimentary online access to the Journal of the American Medical Association, Archives journals and American Medical News.
