Ryan White CARE Act extended
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Jan. 1, 2007
Congress extended through fiscal 2009 the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Modernization Act. The measure, signed into law Dec. 19, 2006, provides states no less than 95% of the 2006 funding levels, according to Rep. Mary Bono (R, Calif.), the bill's primary sponsor.
The law still does not count HIV cases, only AIDS cases. But the measure repeals the 10-year limit on AIDS care and establishes a four-year transition period for states to change from code-based reporting to name-based reporting to provide more mobility to patients.
