Profession
Course to focus on patient safety
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Feb. 12, 2007
To educate physicians on ways to enhance patient safety in clinical or hospital settings, the American Board of Medical Specialties is developing an online course for doctors certified by the 24 ABMS boards. The course, ABMS Patient Safety Improvement Program, is expected to be offered this spring.
Physicians who complete the program will receive continuing medical education credit, and the course will satisfy maintenance-of-certification requirements for practicing and non-practicing physicians based on each ABMS member board's criteria. The program will provide an educational experience that incorporates key patient safety topics, assessment methods, case scenarios and improvement activities for physician practices.
Course modules will follow a sequenced approach, introducing topics, assessment skills and improvement activities using patient data that help physicians incorporate concepts into their practices. For more information, contact the ABMS at 847-491-9091.
