Walter Reed scandal suggests what a single-payer system would be like
LETTER — Posted April 9, 2007
Many physicians feel that a single-payer option is the answer for universal health care. When you think that you are on that bandwagon, think about the conditions uncovered at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
Walter Reed is supposed to be a premier hospital run by the government. Walter Reed is caring for the injured soldiers from Iraq. Those soldiers deserve the best our country can provide. Instead, these patients are being housed in squalid conditions.
If the most deserving in our country gets this kind of care, guess what will happen when the government takes over all health care.
Think carefully before you hop on the bandwagon of the single-payer option for health care.
