NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted May 7, 2007
Quest Diagnostics, the largest medical test provider in the country, said it will buy AmeriPath Inc. for $2 billion, including the assumption of nearly $800 million of the Florida-based diagnostic testing company's debt. The deal is the biggest of six acquisitions Lyndhurst, N.J.-based Quest has undertaken since 2005.
AmeriPath specializes in anatomic pathology, dermatopathology and molecular diagnostic services, areas that analysts said were lacking at Quest.
