AMA offers Medicare bonus help
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted June 25, 2007
The American Medical Association is developing coding worksheets to help physicians who decide to participate in Medicare's upcoming voluntary pay-for-reporting program.
Medicare's Physician Quality Reporting Initiative, which launches July 1, will require participants to report a sufficient amount of quality measures on claims. The AMA worksheets, available on both the Association's and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' Web sites, will assist doctors who try to capture the 1.5% bonus.
Roughly 80% of the quality measures included in the PQRI were developed by the Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement, convened by the AMA. The Association announced earlier this month that it had developed 10 new measures, bringing its total to 184.
