FDA forms risk/benefit communication committee
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted June 25, 2007
The Food and Drug Administration is forming a new advisory committee to guide the agency's efforts to disperse information about the risks and benefits of the items it regulates.
"Communicating the risks and benefits associated with FDA-regulated products is essential to help consumers and health care professionals make informed decisions," said Randall Lutter, PhD, the FDA's acting deputy commissioner for policy.
The agency is calling for nominations of 15 experts in risk communication, social marketing, health literacy, cultural competency, journalism and bioethics. The agency is also seeking members of the public who use some of the regulated items in question.
