WellPoint buys imaging firm
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted July 23, 2007
The health plan WellPoint is buying a company that for many physicians is the one they have to call in order to get an imaging procedure approved.
Indianapolis-based WellPoint is paying $300 million in cash for Deerfield, Ill.-based American Imaging Management. For 2007, American Imaging says it has health plans representing 20 million members.
In a jointly issued news release, the companies said the deal would allow them to "advance their initiatives to reduce growth in health care expenditures, increase transparency and promote improved quality in health care." American Imaging would continue to provide services to plans beyond WellPoint.
