Recently signed budget bills will provide Connecticut physicians an average Medicaid pay increase of about 50% -- their first in 18 years -- and Missouri physicians a 10% increase.

The budget signed by Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell will allocate $27.3 million for the pay boost. The increase was the highlight of a legislative session favorable for physicians, said Matthew Katz, executive director of the Connecticut State Medical Society.

Missouri Gov. Matthew Blunt last month signed a budget bill including $25 million for the physician payment increase, which will bring rates from 44% to 55% of Medicare rates. Blunt also signed a Medicaid reform bill that calls for Medicaid rates to match Medicare by 2012 and creates an 18-member committee to develop a Medicaid pay-for-performance plan.
