Hospital merger creates largest chain

Community Health System announced last month it completed its $6.8 billion acquisition of Plano, Texas-based Triad Hospitals, creating the largest publicly traded hospital company. Through Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health System and its subsidiaries, the company now owns 132 hospitals in 28 states and one in Ireland, for a total of 19,200 licensed beds.
