Blues settlement notices mailed
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Aug. 13, 2007
More than 900,000 physicians can expect to receive settlement notices and claim forms in their mailboxes soon. On July 27, lawyers mailed physician details about the $128 million class-action settlement with the BlueCross and BlueShield Assn. and more than 30 subsidiary Blues plans over alleged improper payment practices.
Florida federal District Judge Federico A. Moreno in May preliminarily approved the deal, which also includes a host of changes to the Blues' business practices. A final hearing in Love et al. v. Blue Cross and Blue Shield Assn. et al. is set for Nov. 14 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida in Miami.
These are deadlines to:
- Opt out of the class and the settlement: Sept. 14
- Object to the settlement: Oct. 1
- Submit claims: Oct. 19
More information about the settlement, including forms and instructions, is available online (link).
