Target taps local doctors for clinics
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Sept. 3, 2007
Target Corp. has contracted with Greater Baltimore Medical Center to supply doctors to oversee in-store clinics the discount chain is opening in Maryland.
Target formerly used MinuteClinic to operate its in-store clinics. But that company backed out after CVS Caremark acquired it last year. So Target, like some other chains, is contracting with local hospitals and physicians to run clinics.
The rebranded Target Clinic is owned by McHenry, Ill.-based Medcor, which hires the nurse practitioners and physician assistants who staff the in-store clinics. Greater Baltimore Medical Associates, the medical center-owned physician practice, will provide physician oversight for clinics in its home area.
The group said it joined with Target so it could expand access to care and also introduce itself to patients who might not have their own primary care physician.
