$100 million gift for Texas medical school
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Oct. 8, 2007
The Robert and Janice McNair Foundation will donate $100 million to Baylor College of Medicine in Houston so the college can hire more physicians and scientists. The school plans to use the money to recruit scholars who will focus on breast cancer, diabetes, pancreatic cancer and neuroscience, including mental disorders.
The gift, announced in September, will be paid over an undisclosed number of years. Robert McNair, who established the foundation, has been a member of Baylor's board of trustees since 1994 and is the owner of the Houston Texans, a National Football League team.
