Wal-Mart rolls out PHR
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Feb. 18, 2008
After legal battles with its original technology vendor set the project behind by several months, Wal-Mart announced it has started rolling out its Dossia personal health record system.
The Dossia coalition partnered with Children's Hospital in Boston last year in developing the electronic system after it went to court with its original vendor, Omnimedix, amid complaints of late payments and missed deadlines.
The Dossia coalition includes Wal-Mart and several other large employers, including Intel, British Petroleum, Pitney Bowes, Cardinal Health, Applied Materials, AT&T and Sanofi-Aventis. While the goal is to provide 5 million employees access to their own electronic health systems, the pilot will include only about 20 Wal-Mart employees and a handful of employees at each of the founding companies.
