ACP writes on e-health
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted June 2, 2008
The American College of Physicians recently published a position paper in which it supports the expansion of e-health activities but calls on payment reform to help more physicians adopt the technologies and compensate them for the time involved in using them.
It also calls for more policies governing the privacy and security of e-health systems.
The study says payers should compensate for the additional time it takes physicians to e-mail patients, review the information patients bring to them from the Internet, as well as the time it takes to review, accept and analyze data from personal health records. The study says that PHRs and patient portals hold the highest value when used in collaboration with physicians.
