NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted June 16, 2008
The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission last month appointed three new members and renewed the terms of two current commissioners.
The newly appointed commissioners, whose terms will expire in 2011, are Peter W. Butler, executive vice president and chief operating officer of Rush University Medical Center in Chicago; Michael Chernew, PhD, professor of health care policy at Harvard Medical School in Boston; and George N. Miller Jr., senior vice president of Catholic Health Partners and president and CEO of Community Mercy Health Partners in Springfield, Ohio. Jennie Chin Hansen, RN, AARP board member, and Nancy M. Kano, professor of management at the Harvard School of Public Health, were re-appointed to three-year terms.
With the April departure from MedPAC of Nicholas Wolver, MD, a pulmonary and critical care physician and CEO of the Billings Clinic in Billings, Mont., the 17-member panel now has five physicians.
