NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted July 7, 2008
Safeway Stores has become the latest store to begin selling selected generic medications at $4 for a month's supply.
The supermarket chain, which has 1,500 stores nationwide, is offering the discount in the eastern portion of the country and parts of the Midwest. The list of discounted drugs includes amoxicillin, atenolol and levothyroxine.
Wal-Mart announced earlier this year it was expanding its own $4 generic program, started in 2006.
