GE cuts imaging workers
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted July 14, 2008
Citing the federal Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 as a cause, GE Healthcare announced the layoff of nearly 400 employees from its Waukesha, Wis., facility.
The company said in a statement that the Medicare reimbursement levels for medical imaging procedures have reduced the amount of money spent on imaging technology, which necessitated a reduction of the company's work force.
The company would not confirm the exact number of employees affected. But it said the cuts were in the hundreds, but less than 400. Approximately 3,000 of the 46,000 people employed at GE worldwide are located in Waukesha.
