Coalition targets health care fraud
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted July 28, 2008
Law enforcement and insurance industry officials are collaborating to fight health care fraud through a newly formed coalition. The Consortium to Combat Medical Fraud formed in June to share resources and find new ways to target wrongdoing in the public and private health insurance markets. The joint project was launched by the National Health Care Anti-Fraud Assn., FBI, Justice Dept., Coalition Against Insurance Fraud and National Insurance Crime Bureau.
Some of the consortium's activities will include sharing information and best practices across insurance industries, designing educational programs to help health insurance company investigators detect fraud by individuals and organized crime, and studying state medical boards' disciplinary actions against fraud perpetrators.
