Hospital employees fired for snooping
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Sept. 1, 2008
Several employees of Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Mich., were fired or disciplined for sneaking a peek at the state governor's medical records.
The Detroit Free Press reported that in April, Gov. Jennifer Granholm was admitted to Sparrow for emergency abdominal surgery. A routine audit of the electronic medical records in July revealed that her records had been accessed by unauthorized hospital employees.
The hospital notified the governor's office but did not disclose how many employees were involved.
