FBI probes threat against pharmacy benefit manager
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Dec. 1, 2008
The FBI is investigating claims that the pharmacy benefit manager Express Scripts was sent an extortion letter that threatened to reveal the personal information of millions of customers. The company revealed the letter in mid-November.
The St. Louis-based company said it received a letter in October claiming that its database had been hacked and that if it didn't pay an undisclosed amount of money, the data thieves would release the personal information of millions of customers, which includes names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth and prescription information. The company said it had identified the data involved and had added additional security to its systems while the FBI investigates.
