FDA top job soon to be vacant

Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach, MD, announced he will leave his post Jan. 20, the day President-elect Barack Obama takes office.
According to news reports, Dr. von Eschenbach, a cancer surgeon, plans to return to Texas. He was appointed acting commissioner in 2005 by President George W. Bush and confirmed in 2006.
