Day's end for a weary resident: How about a merlot on the limo ride home?
LETTER — Posted Jan. 19, 2009
Regarding "IOM urges more rest for residents in push to improve patient safety" (Article, Dec. 22/29, 2008): Providing transportation home for fatigued residents is a great idea.
I think it should be in a limo with a glass of wine so they can relax after their long shifts.
I see the residents doing less and less each and every year. They can not even order a Tylenol for a patient who is admitted under a nonteaching attending physician.
Graduate medical education has become a financial nightmare.
The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education needs to get in touch with reality. Many residents who enter private practice are in for a rude awakening.
