Judge bars WellPoint's $1,000 offers
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted Feb. 9, 2009
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has granted the city attorney's request to stop WellPoint's Anthem Blue Cross subsidiary from sending $1,000 settlement offers to people whose insurance policies were rescinded over the last several years.
The city attorney argued that the offers would affect a class-action case he is bringing against the insurer on behalf of the policy holders.
Judge Anthony J. Mohr on Jan. 26 issued a temporary restraining order barring Anthem Blue Cross from sending any further letters to former enrollees.
