Payer-owned electronic network grows
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted April 20, 2009
CareProfile, a payer-owned, online health record, has expanded to Kentucky.
CareProfile was launched in 2006 when Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida and Humana formed an electronic claims clearinghouse called Availity. It expanded to Texas after Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas joined as a partner. The exchange will now be available to physicians and hospitals in Kentucky, where Humana is headquartered.
The network is the first in the nation supported by multiple payers. It is sourced by claims information that includes office visits, hospitalizations, medications, labs and other test result information and can be accessed by the payers' network of physicians and members.
