Disparities affect longevity
NEWS IN BRIEF — Posted April 20, 2009
Some Americans can expect to die 20 years sooner than others who live just a few miles away because of differences in education, income, race or ethnicity, as well as variations in where and how they live, according to a new report from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's Commission to Build a Healthier America.
The Commission recommends several societal changes to help everyone, especially children, live healthier lives. Among them are a ban on junk food in schools and the provision in schools for at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day.
